Norman R. Ashley

Norman R. Ashley, 87 of Tipton passed away at 12:35 a.m. Saturday, January 29, 2011 at Tipton Hospital from complications of pneumonia.

Mr. Ashley was born Jan. 9, 1924 to Hazel and Kendall M. Ashley in Gary, Indiana.  After serving in the Pacific in the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II, he married Margaret A. ''Peg'' Stouder in 1946 and she survives.

A long-time recreation vehicle owner, Mr. Ashley was a member of the Wally Byam Caravan Club International for Airstream travel trailer owners, serving as president of the northern Indiana regional WBCCI chapter.  He and Peg spent more than 30 years traveling throughout the U.S. and Canada seeing the continent and making lifelong friends.

In 1980 he retired as an insurance adjuster from Motors Insurance Corp. (MIC), and they moved to Ft. Myers, Florida, where they enjoyed golf and tennis and where they lived until 2009.

Survivors include his wife Margaret; son Robert A. Ashley of Tipton; daughters Norma (Robert) Colosimo of Fort Myers, Florida and Nancy (Kenneth) Corbeille of Lake Station, Indiana; and sons James D. (Nancy) Ashley of Tipton and Gerald W. (Stephanie) Ashley of Crown Point, Indiana; 10 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
 
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, February 4 at Young-Nichols Funeral Home, Tipton, with burial to follow in Tetersburg Cemetery in Tipton County with military honors. Visitation will be from 12:00-2:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
