A. Robert "Bob" Baumgartner

A. Robert "Bob" Baumgartner, 94 of Tetersburg died at 1:30 p.m. on Monday, August 20, 2012 at St. Vincent's Indianapolis. He was born on May 29, 1918 in Warren County, Indiana to Arthur Roscoe & Clara Ruth (Jones) Baumgartner and grew up on a farm near Pine Village.  He had also lived in Detroit and Indianapolis.

After graduating from Pine Village High School in 1936, he went to Indiana University where he first met Alice Virginia Applegate.  He played in the Marching 100 Band during his time at IU.  Bob and Virginia were married on May 17, 1942 in Winamac.

Bob was soon drafted into the Army in July of 1942.  He was sent to the University of Pittsburg while in the States and then was sent to the University of Besancon in France. Bob served in Patton's Army during WWII in Europe as a combat engineer.  He returned to the States in December 1945 and lived at Ft. Benjamin Harrison until he was released from the Army.

Bob was an engineer, working at RCA in Indianapolis.  He purchased his first grain/feed elevator in Atlanta and then purchased the elevator in Goldsmith.   He owned and operated the grain and feed business and as normal he was always thinking ahead to incorporate the liquid feed dry and liquid fertilizer business.  He also set up a seed cleaning operation to clean and treat soybeans, wheat and oats for the farmers.

He bought TiCo Products, a cob processing plant in Curtisville in 1957.  After the closing of Baumgartner Grain and TiCo Products,  he continued to be the entrepreneur that he always was and did numerous other individual businesses to stay busy.

Bob was a member of Normanda Christian Church, Kempton Masonic Lodge and the Scottish Rite.  He was always reading books on all kinds of subjects and spoke three languages including French and German.  Bob enjoyed vacationing, camping and hiking in the Rockies.  He was a staunch conservative and supported the private enterprise business.

He built it...the government didn't!
