Martha M. Brown

Martha M. Brown, 79, Windfall, died at 9:20 a.m. Wednesday, May 3, 2006, at Autumnwood Extended Care in Tipton after a 17-year illness.  She was born May 5, 1926, in Elwood to Arthur & Vernie (Bogue) Havens.  On May 6, 1944, she married Jack L. Brown and he survives.

She worked as a secretary for Dr. Harold Ericson, retiring in 1978.  Martha was a member of the Windfall Christian Church and sang in the choir.  She was also in the Handy Hands Ladies Circle and the Women's Circle at the church and was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary.

Prior to her stroke in July 1989, Martha enjoyed sewing, gardening, camping, traveling and her beautiful flower gardens.  She had also compiled two books of genealogy on the Havens and Castor families for others to treasure and enjoy.

Martha is survived by her husband Jack; one son, Sidney L. Brown and his wife Ann of Melbourne, Australia; one daughter,  Ellen L. Hoback and husband Greg, Greentown; one brother, Howard Havens, Melbourne, Florida; three grandchildren, Leigh E. Swartzendruber and husband Brian, Greentown, Jennifer Degan and husband Randall, Avon, and John L. Brown, Indianapolis; two great-grandchildren, Katherine and Luke Swartzendruber, Greentown.

Martha's funeral will be at 10:00 a.m. Monday, May 8 at Young-Nichols Funeral Home, Tipton, with Rev. Paul Gearhardt presiding.  Burial will be in Brookside Cemetery, Windfall.  Visitation will be from 1:00-5:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

When you think of Martha, please remember her with a smile on her face - one that she shared with so many others.  Martha will be remembered and greatly missed by her immediate family and her Autumnwood extended family as well as the many friends she has made over the years.
