David R. Burnette

David R. Burnette, 81 of Tipton went home to be with his Lord on Tuesday, October 1, 2013 at his residence while surrounded by his family.  He was born October 5, 1931 in Clay County, Tennessee to George Thomas & Elise (Kendell) Burnette.  On March 1, 1952 he married Arnell Odle and she survives.

David retired in 1990 from General Motors in Anderson after 36 years of service.  He was a member of the Church of Christ in Tipton where he served as a Bible School teacher and deacon.  David served in the U.S. Army from 1952-54 finishing with the rank of Sergeant.

Survivors besides his wife include two daughters, Debbie Thomas and husband Bill, and Tracy Weddell and husband Dick, all of Tipton; four grandchildren, Stefnie Jones and husband Kyle, Andy Rogers and wife Jen, Nathan Weddell and Taylor Weddell; six great-grandchildren, Austan, Brandon, Anna and Haden Jones, Ella and Benjamin Rogers.

David is also survived by six sisters, Juanita Dale, Spencer, West Virginia, Virginia Odle, Elwood, Addie Jo Williams and husband Winton, Nashville, Tennessee, Ann Baily and husband Bill, Russel Springs, Kentucky, Janell Baumgartner and husband Alan, Goldsmith, and Vicki McClerren and husband Benny, Moss, Tennessee; one sister-in-law, Hazel (Scott) Burnette, Celina, Tennessee.

Five brothers of David's also survive.  They are George Thomas Burnette and wife Rhea, Springfield, Tennessee, Jimmy Burnette and wife Barbara, Tompkinsville, Kentucky, Ralph Burnette and wife Onita, Tompkinsville, Eddy Burnette and wife Debbie, Moss, Tennessee, and Charles Burnette and wife Mary, Ferrandina Beach, Florida.

David was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Roy Burnette and one grandson, Aaron Rogers.

David's funeral will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday at Young-Nichols Funeral Home with Pastor Ken McClain presiding.  Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery with military honors.  Visitation will be from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
