Philip R. Cochran

Philip R. Cochran, 90, Tipton died at 1:20 p.m. Friday, September 3, 2010 at Tipton Hospital.  He was born January 10, 1920 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to Ray Clifton & Vida (Gentsch) Cochran.  He had also lived in Indianapolis and for 20 years he wintered in Bonita Springs, Florida.  Philip married Doris Bickel in 1945 and she preceded him in death on August 6, 1990.  He married Joy Klingerman in 1991 and she died in 1993.  He married Clara Nell Wilson in 1995 and she too preceded him in death in 2001.

Philip was the owner of Cochran Lumber Company in Tipton, retiring in 1985.  He was a member of the Kemp United Methodist Church, a 30-year choir member and served on many committees.  He also belonged to the Bonita Springs Presbyterian Church, Bonita Springs Golf Club, B.P.O.Elks and a past Exalted Ruler, and a member of the Hunters Ridge Country Club in Bonita Springs. 

Philip was a graduate of the former Carnegie Tech, now Carnegie Mellon, and was a member of Delta Tau Delta Fraternity.  He served in the U.S. Army during WWII.

He is survived by one son, C. Daniel Cochran, Barrington, Illinois, and one daughter, Robin Christman, Tipton; three grandchildren, Rob Christman and wife Carrie, Tim Christman and wife Megan and David Christman and wife Becky and four great-grandchildren, Elizabeth, Emily and Erick Christman and Lia Rose Christman.  He was preceded in death by two brothers, John Daniel Cochran and Richard Austin Cochran and one sister, Mary Alice Wetzig.

A memorial service for Philip will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, September 17 at the Kemp United Methodist Church with Revs. Phil Collier and Joann Kaiser presiding. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery. Young-Nichols Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
