Thomas D. Cox

Thomas D. Cox, 90, Tipton died at 12:15 a.m. Tuesday, September 7, 2010 at Tipton Hospital.  He was born July 5, 1920 in Atlanta, Indiana to Thomas and Pearl (Achenbach) Cox.  On January 15, 1949 he married Gertrude Leeman and she preceded him in death on January 20, 2008.

Thomas owned and operated Cox Plumbing, Electric, and Heating from 1939-1942. Prior to this he worked for Atlanta and Aroma as a telephone lineman. He also owned Cox General Store in Atlanta from 1957-1964.  Thomas served in the U.S. Army in the Pacific Theater during World War II.

He is survived by two sons, Daniel Cox and wife Ann, Tipton and Elmer R. Cox and wife Anita, Minnesota; two grandchildren, Julie Cox and Charity Cox.  Thomas was preceded in death by one brother who died at birth.

His funeral will be at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 14, at the First Baptist Church, 400 Oak Street, Tipton with Rev. Ken Roberts, Rev. Mark Ward, Rev. Elmer Cox and Rev. Dr. Lawrence Hufhand.  Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery with military honors.  Visitation will be from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Monday at Young-Nichols Funeral Home and from 1:00-2:00 p.m. Tuesday at the church.
