Murl N. Day

Murl Noel Day, 91 of Tipton died at 9:20 p.m. on Sunday, April 21, 2013 at Millers Merry Manor in Tipton.  He was a lifetime resident of Tipton, being born in Tipton on May 13, 1921 to Miles Everett & Edith Ethel (Phifer) Day.  On November 16, 1948 he married Henrietta Leona Hellmann and she survives.

Murl retired as the chief mechanic for the Tipton County Highway Department.  He also drove bus number 7 for 25 year for Tipton School Corporation.  He was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church and enjoyed reading and working on lawn mowers.  Murl served in the U.S. Army Air Corps as a 1st Lieutenant and flight instructor during WWII.

Survivors besides his wife Henrietta include nine children, Helen (Day) Baltic and husband Tony, Ft. Collins, Colorado, Anita (Day) Carter, Troy, Michigan, Mary Ann (Day) Losey and husband David, Sellersburg, Indiana, Charles Day and wife Theresa, Mineral, Virginia, Fr. Martin Day, San Antonio, Texas, Carolyn (Day) Zenoni and husband Robert, Cedarburg, Wisconsin, Margaret (Day) Patterson, West Lafayette, Barbara (Day) Davis and husband Michael, Greenwood, and Dennis Day and wife Valerie, Lorton, Virginia.

Murl is also survived by one sister-in-law, Ann (Mattingly) Day, Tipton; 23 grandchildren and 35 great-grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister, Burl Loel Day, Aubrey Clayton Day and Mary Ellen Altherr.

A funeral mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 25 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church with Fr. Leroy Kinnaman presiding.  Burial will follow in St. John's Cemetery with military honors.  Visitation will be from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at Young-Nichols Funeral Home with a Wake Service at 7:00 p.m.
