Marjorie Jeanne Foster

 Marjorie Jeanne (Hackett) Foster passed away at 2:50 a.m. Saturday, February 18, 2012 at Miller's Merry Manor in Tipton.  Marjorie, the daughter of Earl T. and Ferol  Gilberta (Decker) Hackett, was born in Tipton, Indiana on June 1, 1922.  As the youngest of six children, she is pre-deceased by her parents, brothers Henry Earl and Paul Hackett, and sisters Cleva Carter and Jane Murphy.    

Mrs. Foster graduated from Elwood High School in 1939 and married George Lee Foster on January 12, 1943, one day before he left to serve in the WWII Pacific Theatre as a radar specialist.  She worked with her husband in the family business, Foster Furniture Store, for many years and served as a driving examiner for the State of Indiana for fifteen years prior to retiring in the late 1990’s.   She was a member of Tri Kappa Sorority, Kemp United Methodist Church and a founding member of the Tipton County Memorial Hospital Auxiliary.  Marjorie exemplified the qualities of “The Greatest Generation” and her family will carry those values forward in her honor.

Cherishing her life and legacy are her husband of 69 years, George Lee Foster; sister Dr. Elizabeth A. MacNaughton – Houston, Texas; children Lee-Anne Distler (William), Lexington, North Carolina;  Julie Lambert (Destry), Tipton; and George Lee “Chip” Foster II (Sheri), Carmel;  grandchildren Jenny Distler Stribling (Yancey), Katie Distler Eckman (Scott), Nathan Destry Lambert (Stephanie), Kristin  Lambert Himsel  (Nate), Lindsay Caroline Lambert; and great-grandchildren Henry Nathan, Marjorie Jane and Julia Farrell Lambert;  George Hunter and Margaret Armstrong Eckman;  William Foster and James Yancey Stribling IV; and Destry Thomas Himsel.

Private family services are planned through Young-Nichols Funeral Home with burial at Fairview Cemetery, Tipton.  In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the CW Mount Community Center, c/o Tipton County Foundation, P.O. Box 412, Tipton, Indiana, 46072.
