Mary D. Griffin

Mary D. Griffin, 91, Tipton died at 7:30 a.m. Thursday, October 21, 2010 at Miller's Merry Manor.  She was born December 29, 1918 in Tipton County to Francis V. & Frances T. (Koors) Dane.

She was a clerk and worked in the meat department at Griffin's IGA Grocery store in Cicero of which she was a co-owner, for many years.  She later worked at Hank's Grocery in Kokomo.  Mary was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Cicero for many years and most recently a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Tipton and the Rosary Society.  She belonged to the Women of the Moose and was a volunteer at Tipton Hospital.

Mary is survived by one daughter, Joyce Hiatt and husband Mark, Allen, Texas; four sisters, Christine Ehman, Kokomo, Rosina Simms, Lake Forrest, California, and Betty Thornton and Carolyn Deeb Biddle both of Tipton; two grandsons, Jeff Hiatt and wife April and Matt Hiatt and wife Jessica; six great-grandchildren, Savannah, Ansley, Taylor, Kendal, Alexis and Mason.

She was preceded in death by one daughter, Linda Louise Griffin, a granddaughter Angela Lynn Hiatt, two sisters, Margaret Brown and Frances Shawhan; four brothers, Henry Dane, Clem Dane, Bernard Dane and Joseph Dane.

The funeral Mass will be at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, October 26 at St. John's Catholic Church in Tipton with Rev. Leroy Kinnaman presiding.  Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. Monday at Young-Nichols Funeral Home with a Wake Service at 7:00 p.m. followed by the rosary.
