Vernon Harrell

Vernon Harrell, 98, Tipton, died at 8:35 p.m. Monday, July 3, 2006, at AmeriCare Living Center, Westfield.  He was born January 26, 1908, in Howard County to Frank & Rosa Harrell.  He was married to Imogene Lake until her death in 1980.  In 1984 he married Ruth Carter and she survives.

Vernon worked as a transport driver for Shell Oil Company, retiring in 1970.  He was a member of Normanda Christian Church, 50-year member of Austin Masonic Lodge in Tipton and the Scottish Rite.  He belonged to the AAONM Shrine and the Shrine Transportation Club in Kokomo.

Survivors include his wife Ruth; one son, Larry Harrell, Indianapolis; one step-daughter, Barbara Scherich and her husband Lloyd, Tipton; seven grandchildren, David Harrell and wife Mary Ann, Daniel Harrell and wife Lisa, Terry Johnson, Jennie Schreve and husband Eric, Joyce Ross and husband Jeremy, Judy Waddell and husband Charles, and Tamara Harrell; one step-grandson, Brad Scherich and wife Julie; 15 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by four sisters, Edith Winslow, Mildred Kinder, Olive Webb and Jeanette Hankins, and one brother, Kenneth Harrell.

His funeral will be at 10:00 a.m. Friday, July 7 at Young-Nichols Funeral Home with Steve Brown presiding.  Burial will be in Sunset Memory Garden in Kokomo.  Visitation will be from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home and a Masonic service at 7:00 p.m.
