Mary Harter

Mary (Harmon) Harter, 92, Tipton died at 12:45 a.m. Monday, June 8, 2009 at Miller's Merry Manor in Tipton.  She was born July 30, 1916 in Chicago to Albert & Elsa Mae (Cramer) Harmon.  She married Edward C. Harter at the Wenona Presbyterian Church in January 1941 and he preceded her in death.

Mary worked for Illinois Family Services, Illinois Employment Services and was the editor of the Wenona Index in Wenona, Illinois.  She attended the Wenona and Wauwatosa Presbyterian Churches and belonged to the Women's Association, was an Elder, and also an organist in Wenona.  She belonged to the American Legion Auxiliary and Eastern Star.  She was a Sigma Kappa at the University of Illinois where she graduated in 1937 with a degree in Journalism.

Mary is survived by three children, Mary Katherine Chittum and husband Martin, Tipton, James Harter and wife Linda, California, and Richard Harter, Wisconsin; a daughtetr-in-law Linda Harter of Milwaukee; one half sister, Carol Hudson, Chicago; three grandchildren, Martin Chittum, Jr., George Chittum and John Chittum.  She was preceded in death by one son, Albert Harter.

A memorial service will be held at 7:00 pm Friday, June 12 at Miller's Merry Manor, 300 Fairgrounds Road, Tipton, with Rev. Linda Philabaun presiding.  Young-Nichols Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
