Lawrence S. Hudson

Lawrence S. Hudson, 96 of Tipton went to sleep in the arms of Jesus about 3:45 p.m. Sunday, August 16, 2015 at I.U. Health Tipton Hospital.  He was born September 9, 1918 in Breckenridge County, Kentucky the son of Lawrence S. and Golda (Preston) Hudson.  He married Mildred Irene Crawford on November 30, 1939 near Elizabethtown, Kentucky.  She preceded him in death on September 24, 2004.

Lawrence moved to Indiana from Kentucky in the fall of 1944, living near Fowler where he tenant farmed.  He later moved to the Monon / Reynolds, Indiana area in 1949, continuing tenant farming until moving to Lafayette in 1976, where he continued to work for Indiana Laborers Hod Carrier Union, mostly at Eli Lilly until retiring in 1980.  Due to declining health of his wife, they moved to Tipton in 2003 to be near their children.  He served as the president of the Southwood Homeowners Association for several years.

He was an active member of the Wesleyan Church in Fowler, Monon and Lafayette, serving as Sunday School Superintendent, board member, trustee and such.  He loved to paint, working many hours at the Wesleyan campgrounds in Frankfort and at churches around the district.

Lawrence is survived by five children: Loretta Wells, Potterille, Michigan, Charles (Linda) Hudson, Tipton, Beverly Hudson, Tipton, Randall (Teresa) Hudson, Tipton and Ronald (Dixie) Hudson, Sarasota, Florida.  Grandchildren include Daniel (Jennifer) Wells, Janette (Chris) Teesdale, Stephanie Andrews, Matthew (Angie) Hudson, Melissa (Alan) Boughton, Mindy (Rodney) Hensley, Stephen Hudson, Micah (Jennifer) Hudson, Lauren (Blaine) Sherk and Elizabeth Rebsted; 18 great-grandchildren including Shelbi (Nate) Hale and Quentin Boughton of Tipton; four great-great-grandchildren including Gabriel Boughton of Tipton.  He was preceded in death by a daughter, Shirleen Faye Hudson in 1941 and a brother Loyal Hudson and a sister Louise Coogle.

Funeral services will be at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 19 at Trinity Wesleyan Church in Tipton with Pastor Johnnie Blair presiding assisted by Rev. Micah Hudson, Lawrence's grandson.  Visitation is scheduled from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. Wednesday also at the church.  Burial will be at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday at Tippecanoe Memory Gardens in Lafayette.
