James J. Jurney

James J. Jurney, 80, of Tipton died at 10:45 a.m. Wednesday, October 15, 2008 at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis. He was born December 26, 1927 in Newman, Illinois to James Clinton & Anna (Alexander) Jurney.  On October 8, 1950 he married W. Joan Derringer and she preceded him in death on October 13, 2003.

Jim was a school teacher at Tipton High School for over 30 years.  He was a member of the Rotary, Vocational Club, and IICCA.  He was a lifetime member of the American Vocational Association.  Jim had served in the U.S. Army.

Survivors include one son, John Jurney and wife Lynn, Carmel; two sisters, Ethelmae Hale, Urbana, Illinois and Rose Gallion, Newman, Illinois; and two grandsons, Joseph and Jacob Jurney. He was preceded in death by five sisters.

Jim's funeral will be at 11:00 a.m. Monday, October 20 at Young-Nichols Funeral Home with Rev. Jack Masters.  Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery with military honors.  Visitation will be from 2:00-6:00 p.m. Sunday.
