Marjorie J. Kunkle

Marjorie "Marge" Kunkle of Tipton passed away peacefully Saturday, June 6, 2009 after a five year illness, at the age of 71.  She was born November 7, 1937 in Blakeslee, Ohio to Harry and Lenna (Ladd) Huard.  She attended school and graduated from Edon, Ohio, in 1955.  Upon graduation, she moved to Bryan, Ohio to live with an aunt where she was employed by Bard Manufacturing for the next five years.  During this time she met and married her present husband, Calvin S. Kunkle, who attended Tri-State University.  Upon graduation in 1960, they moved to Muncie, Indiana, where their son Gregory Scott Kunkle was born in 1961.  In 1962 Calvin accepted employment in Tipton and they have resided here since.

While living in Tipton, she was employed by the State of Indiana, Tipton County Division of Family and Children, retiring after 31 years of service.  She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Tipton, past officer of the Women of the Moose, and Tri-Kappa Sorority.  Her love of playing bridge kept her in the same bridge club since 1963, actively playing until her recent illness prohibited her from attending,  She was also very active in various crafts including hooked rugs and knitting before the illness.

Marjorie is survived by her husband of 51 years, Calvin S. Kunkle; son Gregory S. Kunkle, Harlingen, Texas; sisters Phyllis Marshall of Florida, Dottie Mayo of Georgia, Helen Pessafall of Ohio; brothers Michael and Roger Huard of Ohio and many nieces and nephews.

The pride of her life included her grandchildren Scott, at Texas A&M at College Station, Natalie, at Texas A&M at Corpus Christi and Emily, a senior at high school in Harlingen, Texas, and especially the newest addition of her first great-granddaughter, Avery Juliet Kunkle.

The family will be celebrating Marjorie's life and will receive friends from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 10, at Young-Nichols Funeral Home with the Women of the Moose conducting a ceremony at 7:30 p.m. and visitation from 10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. Thursday at the church.  Funeral services will be conducted by Rev. Dr. Linda Philabaun at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, June 11, at the First Presbyterian Church in Tipton.  Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Tipton.

The family suggests in lieu of flowers, donations in Marjorie's honor be made to the First Presbyterian Church, 200 W. Jefferson Street, Tipton, for Tipton County food banks, or Caregiver Companion of Tipton County, 121 N. Main Street, Tipton.
