Robert D. Maney, Jr.

Robert Daniel Maney, Jr., 68, Indianapolis, and a former Tipton resident, died Tuesday, February 23, 2010 at the Richard L. Roudebush VA Medical Center in Indianapolis.  He was born June 16, 1941 in Indianapolis to Robert D. "Bud" & Mary Helen (Tolle) Maney.

Bob Worked from1969-1974 as a sports editor and writer at the Frankfort Times in Frankfort, Indiana; 1974-1978 as sports editor at the Athens Messenger in Athens, Ohio; 1976-1978 as a part-time journalism teacher at Ohio University in Athens, Ohio; 1979-1981 as sports editor and reporter at the Atkinson-Annawan News in Atkinson, Illinois; 1981 writer for Coin World of Sidney, Ohio; 1982-1988 he was the General Manager for the News Publishing Co. in Atkinson, Illinois and from 1988 until retirement in 2008 he was writer/sports writer/editor of the Paxton Record in Paxton, Illinois.

While living in Paxton Bob was a member of St. Mary & St. Joseph Catholic Church.  He was a graduate of Ball State University and was a member of American Legion Prairie Post 150 in Paxton.  He served in the United States Air Force and was stationed in Greenland.

Survivors include cousins Dr. Fred Tolle and wife Paula, Indianapolis, Judy (Tolle) Henderson and husband William, Greenwood, Capt. Robert Tolle, USN, (Ret.) and wife Joan, Fairfax, Virginia, Daniel Tolle, Indianapolis, Patrick Jerrell and wife Elaine, Indianapolis, Michael Jerrell and wife Linda, Indianapolis and Stephen Jerrell and wife Kaye, Jasper, Indiana.

His funeral will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 27 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Tipton, with Rev. Leroy Kinnaman presiding.  Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery at a later date.  No visitation is planned. Young-Nichols Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
