Wendell A. McMannis

Wendell A. McMannis, 79 of Kokomo and formerly of Tipton, died at 12:30 p.m. on Monday, July 14, 2014 at St. Joseph Hospital in Kokomo. He was born on May 9, 1935 in Elizaville, Indiana to Sullivan and Mildred (Maiden) McMannis . Wendell married Faye Short on August 2, 1963 and she survives.

Wendell worked for Chrysler for thirty years, retiring in December of 1994. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Tipton, the American Legion, Tipton Moose Lodge and the VFW. Wendell enjoyed reading, bowling, golfing, fishing, playing shuffle board, working in the yard, repairing and tinkering and spending time with his family. He was a big fan of Indiana University and enjoyed all sports.

Wendell served in the United States Air Force as a Flight Electrician from December 1956 to October 1961. He was a friend to everyone and never met a stranger.  Wendell was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend.

He is survived by his wife Faye and children Eva Madden, Waterloo, IL; Randy McMannis, Tipton; Windy Yankey, Redbud, IL; David McMannis, Kokomo; and Linda McMannis, Upland; brother Jerry Gatlin (Donna), NC; and sister Marlene Johnston (Jim), Kokomo. Wendell has 18 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by sister Patricia Prifogel.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, July 18, at Young-Nichols Funeral Home with Pastor Mark Ward presiding. Burial with military rites will follow in Fairview Cemetery. Visitation will be on from 3:00-8:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 17 and prior to the service Friday from 10:00-11:00 a.m.
