E. Bruce Privett

Former Indiana State Police Sergeant, E. Bruce Privett, 63, who endured over 24 years battling the debilitating disease of progressive multiple sclerosis passed from this world on July 8, 2011.

Born to Frances and Harold Privett in March 1948, he graduated from Anderson High School and attended Vincennes University.  He worked for the City of Anderson as an engineer until being recruited by the State Police as a law enforcement officer in 1979.  He was a squad sergeant assigned to the Pendleton Post before retiring on disability and becoming self-employed as a CAD operator.

Bruce is survived by his wife and primary caregiver, Vicki Privett, and two children; son, Shaun Privett and wife, Steffani, Atlanta and daughter, Amy Hinshaw and husband, Keith, Lapel, along with his first wife and mother of their children, Pat Cowart and husband, Bill, of Noblesville.  He was blessed with the birth of three grandchildren, Keegan and Kyla Hinshaw, and Nora Privett.  Also surviving are brothers, Scott and Tom Privett, Anderson and many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank the many, many caregivers who assisted in so many ways over the years.  Bruce had resided at home in Arcadia before transitioning to The Lodge in Noblesville, Manor Care in Anderson and finally at Tipton Hospital and Millers Merry Manor.  A special note of gratitude to Drs. Mike Harper and Vince Delumpa who have provided such extraordinary personalized care throughout this very arduous journey.

Although medical science has yet to find a cure for demyelinating diseases, Bruce requested contributions in lieu of flowers be made to support exciting brain disease research through the McLaughlin Research Institute, 1520 23rd Street South, Great Falls, MT  59405-4900 or The Myelin Project, P.O. Box 39, Pacific Palisades, CA  90272.

As we celebrate his life and honor his memory at Young-Nichols Funeral Home, Tipton, with visitation from 2:00-6:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 10 and funeral at 6:00 p.m., we find comfort in commending his spirit into the hands of our GOD and Creator through his Son, our Lord Jesus Christ.

A private burial service will be held at Maplewood Cemetery in Anderson.
