Jean B. Robinson

Jean Burdge Robinson, 87 departed this life at 9: 35 a.m. on Tuesday the 11th day of December, 2012 at Miller's Merry Manor in Tipton.  She was born in Tipton on November 15, 1925, the daughter of Leroy M. and Mary Temple Burdge.  On June 21, 1943, she married Robert L. Robinson and he preceded her in death on November 2, 2007.

She was a 1943 Honor graduate of Tipton High School.  Jean had been an employee of the Citizens National Bank, and was the first women to ever serve as an officer of the bank.  She retired December 31, 1988, from the law firm of Watson and Hobbs, where she had been a legal secretary for nearly 30 years.

Jean was a member of the Goldsmith United Methodist Church, where she had served as Treasurer for over 26 years.  She had also served eight terms as President of the United Methodist Women.

She had been a member of the M. I. Hummel Collectors Club since 1984, was a Charter member of Job's Daughters in Tipton, and a member of the Tipton County Historical Society.  Jean was a strong believer in the National Rifle Association where she was a member of the Golden Eagles.  Jean had received the National Patriot's Medal from the Golden Eagles.

She was well known for her love of animals.  One of her favorite pets was her pet raccoon, Clyde, who was with her nearly ten years.  For over 50 years she fed wild animals nightly and the birds and squirrels daily.

Jean is survived by one brother, Jack M. Burdge, North Palm Beach, Florida, and three nieces.  She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister and brother-in-law Lucile and Howard Hobbs and her sister-in-law Martha Jane Burdge.

Jean's funeral will be at 2:00 p.m. Friday, December 14 at Young-Nichols Funeral Home with Pastor Paul Sutherland presiding and burial to follow in Fairview Cemetery, Tipton.  Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
