Donald S. Ross

Donald Stinson Ross, 80, Tipton, died at 9:20 p.m. Thursday, May 20, 2010 at Primrose Retirement Community in Kokomo.  He was born May 28, 1929, the son of Dr. Joseph and Bertha (Conaway) Ross in Atlanta, Indiana.  On September 1, 1951 he married Bonnie Sue Quyle who survives. 

Don attended Jackson Central in Arcadia and graduated in 1947.  He was owner of Don Ross Motors,  Tipton Ford Lincoln & Mercury, for 35 years.  He was past president of the Indiana Ford Dealers Association and a licensed auctioneer and realtor.  Don was a member of West Street Christian Church, 61-year member of Tipton Elks Lodge 1012, Tipton Moose Lodge for for 50 years, the American Legion for 57 years, a lifetime Shriner, a lifetime Mason, and a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War.  He served as a member of the board of directors for Star Financial Bank for 28 years.  Don was an avid hunter, fisherman, businessman, family man, and gentleman.  He loved his church and community.

Survivors include wife, Bonnie, Tipton, daughters, Stephanie Ross, South Bend, Lisa Ross Todd and husband Rick Todd, Kokomo, granddaughters, Tiffany Todd, Kokomo, and Tracey Todd, Indianapolis.  He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.  Preceding him in death were his parents Dr. Joseph and Bertha Ross, brothers  Joe and Robert Ross, sisters Betsy Curnutt, Imogene Conklin, and Phyllis Cook, along with three nephews.  

Don's funeral service will be at 11:00 A.M., Tuesday, May 25 at West Street Christian Church, 132 N. West Street, Tipton, with Pastor Greg Reed and Rev. Linda McKiernan-Allen presiding. Entombment will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Tipton, with military honors.

Visitation will be 3:00 to 8:00 p.m., Monday, May 24 at Young-Nichols Funeral Home, 216 W. Jefferson Street, Tipton, and one hour prior to the service Tuesday at the church.  Memorial contributions may be made to West Street Christian Church.
