Lester E. Schwear

Lester E. Schwear, 87, Zionsville and a former Tipton County resident, died at 7:20 p.m. Saturday, July 28, 2007 at St. Vincent Hospital, Indianapolis.  He was born June 5, 1920 in Sunman, IN to Edward. & Emma (Oehlman) Schwear.    He married Naomi Meyncke November 20, 1945 and she survives.

Lester was a farmer and contractor.  He was a member of the Tipton Emanuel Lutheran Church, American Legion Post #46, V.F.W., Disabled American Veterans, 40 & 8, and Tipton F.O.P. 109 life member.  He served in the U.S. Army  from 1942-1945.  He was involved in the battles of Algeria-French Morocco, Egypt-Libya, Tunisia, Sicily, Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, and Central Europe.  Lester received EAME Theater Ribbon with seven Bronze Stars, Good Conduct Ribbon, Purple Heart with one oak leaf cluster, Distinguished Unit Citation, France Invasion Medal, and Bronze Star with one Oak Leaf.

Survivors besides his wife Naomi include one daughter, Lou Ann Mitchell, Carmel.  Lester is also survived by two grandchildren, Ryan and Alissa Mitchell, and one sister Sylvia Menchhofer, Atlanta.  He was preceded in death by one sister Elvira Trietsch

His funeral will be at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday August 1 at Emanuel Lutheran Church, Tipton.  Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery in Tipton with military honors provided by the American Legion.  Visitation will be from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Tuesday at Young-Nichols Funeral Home, Tipton and one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday.
