Bernice Shockney

Bernice Shockney, age 92 of Frankfort and formerly of Tipton County and Nashville, Indiana died at 10:58 a.m. Friday, May 20, 2011 at Franciscan St. Elizabeth Health in Lafayette.  Born May 11, 1919 in Tipton, she was the daughter of Perry and Mary "Mamie" (Trautman) Ramsey.   She attended Tipton High School until she married Stephen J. Shockney on March 6, 1938. He preceded her in death on September 15, 1999. 

She was a homemaker, past president of the first Extension Homemakers of Tipton Co, a past president of the Jackson Community Club and a member of the White Shrine of Kokomo. She was also a member of the Rosary Chapter 66 Eastern Star and a former member of Kemp United Methodist Church in Tipton.

Surviving are sons Allen (wife Janice) Shockney of Plymouth, Wayne (wife Dawna) Shockney of Hilliard, Ohio and daughter Sharlyn (husband Robert) Hensler of Rensselaer. Her five surviving grandchildren are Stephen Shockney of Lancaster, Ohio, Lt. Commander Brett (wife Yvette) Shockney of Annapolis, Maryland, Shawnda Scott of Clarks Hill, Heather (husband Lt Commander Jason) Davis of Platt City, Missouri, and Bona (wife Heather) Hensler of Rensselaer. There are seven great-grandchildren; Katilyn Shockney, Ayo Scott, Sage Scott, Blake Hensler, Adeline Hensler, Finnegan Davis, and Ella Shockney.

Bernice was preceded in death by her husband Stephen, granddaughter Stephanie Shockney and two brothers Floyd and Clarance Ramsey.

Her funeral will be at 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 24 at Young-Nichols Funeral Home with Rev. Melvin Lane presiding and burial to follow in Fairview Cemetery, Tipton.  Visitation will be from 1:00 - 3:00 p.m. Tuesday.
