Wanda E. Spurgeon Smith

Wanda E. Spurgeon Smith, 84, Kokomo, died at 5:23 p.m. Tuesday, September 29, 2009 at Howard Regional Health System, Kokomo.  She was born September 19, 1925 in Tipton County to Kenneth P. and Della Mae (Bitner) Johnson.  She married Paul B. Spurgeon March 10, 1945 and later married Gloster Smith, MD.

Wanda graduated from Kempton High School in 1944.  She enjoyed taking care of her cats and she loved spending time with her family and friends.

She is survived by one daughter, Judith Cox and husband John, Thorntown; two sons, Ronald Spurgeon and wife Diana, Ft. Wayne, and David Spurgeon and wife April, Darlington, IN; four grandchildren, Sarah, Elizabeth, and Ryan Spurgeon and wife Annie, and Dakotah Spurgeon; two sisters, Thelma Holst, Frankfort, and Marcia Smith Burlage and husband D.J., Tipton; three brothers, John Johnson and wife Zoe, Anderson, Bob Johnson, Taswell, IN, and Jack Johnson and wife Connie, Anderson.

She was preceded in death by four brothers, Elbert Johnson, Paul Johnson, Eugene Johnson, Harold Johnson and three sisters, Virginia Martin, Sally Hill, and Mary Lou Potter.

Her funeral will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, October 3 at Young-Nichols Funeral Home in Tipton with Rev. Bill Salsbery presiding.  Burial will be at Union Cemetery, Hamilton County.  Visitation will be from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
