Russell E. "Rut" Sottong

Russell E. "Rut" Sottong, 68 of Kempton died at 12:40 a.m. Saturday, December 1, 2012 at IU Health Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.  He was born June 1, 1944 in Elwood to Joseph Earl & Mary Louise (Clark) Sottong.  On February 20, 1965 he married Linda L. Henry and she survives.

Russell was a farmer; he also worked for the Tipton County Highway Department for over twenty years, delivered fuel oil for Farmer's Oil and Tire for over twenty years, and was a substitute school bus driver.  He was a member of the Emanuel Lutheran Church, where he served as a usher, and the Mid-America Antique Threshers Club.  Russell enjoyed restoring antique tractors, watching sprint car racing, and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Linda; four children, Randy Sottong and wife Bonnie, Lora Bitner and dear friend Jim Gibson, Amy Royal and husband Chris, and David Sottong, all of Kempton; nine grandchildren, Jenna and Joni Sottong, Kristyn, Morgan, and Molly Bitner, Will, Kelsey, Caleb, and Lindsey Royal; two brothers, Ronnie Sottong and wife Judy, Atlanta, Bud Sottong and wife Joyce, Tipton; two sisters, Judy Martin and husband Keith, Tipton, Karen Brown and husband Vic, Tipton.  He was preceded in death by a sister, Janet Burkhardt and a grandchild.

Russell's funeral will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 5 at the Emanuel Lutheran Church  with Rev. Robb Roloff presiding with burial following at Normanda Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 2:00 - 8:00 p.m. Tuesday and from 10:00 - 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, all at the church.
