Jack Teter

Jack Teter, 81 of Goldsmith died at 10:13 a.m. on Monday, June 2, 2014 at Riverview Hospital in Noblesville.  He was born in Tipton on January 22, 1933 to Basil Omer & Edna Mabel (Adams) Teter.  On September 29, 1956 he married Sally A. Britton and she survives.

Jack had worked at Chrysler Kokomo Transmission for over 32 years in the shipping department driving a fork lift.  He retired in 1986.  After retirement he worked as a groundskeeper at Pioneer.  Even during layoff times at Chrysler, Jack supported his family by pitching hay, digging graves and building fences.

He remodeled and added on to his house and it became "the house that Jack built". He enjoyed woodworking making bird houses, lawn ornaments and whirly gigs.  Jack was a "repurposer"; using bits and pieces of cast-off wood and metal to make storage boxes for his fishing equipment and shop supplies. He was a big sports fan, especially of the Pacers and Colts and he liked to umpire Little League ball games.

He was a graduate of Jefferson Township High School in 1951 in a class of 13 students.  Jack had been a volunteer with the Jefferson Township Fire Department in Goldsmith.  He served in the U.S. Air Force for four years during the Korean War as a jet engine mechanic which left him a disabled veteran.

Survivors besides his wife Sally include four children, Peggy Eller and husband Mike, Lebanon, Martin Teter and wife Ivanelle, Tipton, Jerry Teter and wife Dawn, Sheridan and Eric Teter and wife Christy, Bloomington; one brother, Ron Teter and wife Carolyn, Tipton and one sister, Christina Grist and husband Ed, Monticello.

Jack is also survived by 10 grandchildren, Kurt Savage, Kelsey Lavigne, Janelle Plake, Jeff Teter, Jeremy Teter, Dominic Giese, Brittany Teter, David Teter, Curtis Teter and Lynn Teter; 10 great-grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by three siblings.

Jack's funeral will be at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 5 at Young-Nichols Funeral Home with Rev. Lee Mangold presiding.  Visitation will be from 3:00 - 7:00 p.m. on Thursday with the burial at 11:30 a.m. Friday at Tetersburg Cemetery with military honors.
