Sylvia Elvona (Davis) Tolle

Sylvia Elvona Tolle, 88, Tipton, died at 6:20 p.m. Friday, March 21, 2008 at Miller's Merry Manor in Tipton.  She was born June 14, 1919 in Elwood to Edwin P. & Sylvia Dell (Balser) Davis.  She met Edgar M. Tolle on a date for ice cream set up by his sister, Marjorie Hicks, after he returned from WWII  .  They were later married on February 7, 1947.  Edgar died on September 27, 2005.

She was a school teacher in Windfall and Elwood for 37 years, both in high school and vocational schools, retiring in 1984.  Elvona attended Ball State earning Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Home Economics and Social Science.

Elvona was a member of the Tipton County Historical Society and the Retired Teachers Association.  She was a former member of Hazel Dell Friends Church and was currently a member of Windfall United Methodist Church.

She is survived by one son, Michael Tolle and wife Sally, Tipton;  three grandchildren, Aaron Tolle and wife Elizabeth, Tipton, Stacy Hare and husband Jason, Tipton, and Andrew Tolle, Carmel; three great-grandchildren, Aden Tolle, Griffin Hare and Gavin Hare.  Elvona is also survived by three brothers, Paul Davis, Anderson, Tom Davis, Greenwood and Richard Davis, Elwood.  She was preceded in death by one great-grandson, Brevin Tolle and one sister, Olive Locke.

Her funeral will be at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 25 at Young-Nichols Funeral Home with Rev. Chris Ellis presiding.  Burial will follow in Brookside Cemetery, Windfall.  Visitation will be from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
