Marjorie A. (Lambert) Welches McNew

Marjorie A. (Lambert) Welches McNew, 86, Tipton, died at 10:00 a.m. Friday, January 25, 2008 at Miller's Merry Manor in Tipton.  She was born in Tipton on December 7, 1921 to Paul Lambert and Edna (Banta) Lambert Hiatt.  She had previously lived in Indianapolis and Anderson.  She married Albert Welches on July 4, 1942, and later married Ralph McNew in April, 2002.  Both men are now deceased.

Marjorie had been employed in the Tipton County Clerk's Office, as office secretary to the East Lynn Christian Church in Anderson, in the Administration building for the Kokomo-Center Township Schools, and served over 17 1/2 years with the U.S. Civil Service System, mostly with Selective Service.  She worked for the Tipton County Draft Board for seven years and also did volunteer work for the Mustard Seed under Sr. Dorothy gall during its first year.  She was a member of West Street Christian Church and a former member of Business and Professional Women.

Survivors include one son, Phillip B. Welches and wife Hidemi Ichiki Welches, Park Ridge, Illinois; two daughters, Renee L. Anderson and husband Thomas, Tipton, and Emily Sue "Suzie" Welches, Noblesville; three step-daughters, Janice Likens, Cynthia Nantroup and Susan Plake, all of Tipton; her step-mother, Lucille Lambert of California; one sister Jean Green, Tipton; one half brother, William Frank Lambert, Colorado; one half sister, Betty Goodwin, California; seven grandchildren, Erin Anderson and wife Catherine, Heather Anderson, Lucas May, Morgan (Endicott) Maxwell, Mira Ichiki Welches, John Kohtaro Ichiki-Welches and Mika Ichiki-Welches; 4 great-grandchildren, several step-grandchildren, step-great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.  One brother, Boyd Lambert, is deceased.

Her funeral will be at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 29, at West Street Christian Church, 132 N. West Street, Tipton, with Rev. Janice Burns-Watson presiding.  Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Tipton.  Visitation will be from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. Monday at Young-Nichols Funeral Home and from 10:00-11:00 a.m. Tuesday at the church.
