J. B. "Jake" Yeary

J.B. “Jake” Yeary, 77, Hobbs died at 4:45 pm Wednesday, May 14, 2008, at Millers Merry Manor in Chesterfield.  Born February 13, 1931, in Tazewell, Tennessee, he was the son of Charlie and Nora (Brooks) Yeary.  He married Bertha York in Tipton on July 31, 1954.  She preceded him in death August 6, 2003.

He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War from 1951 to 1954.  He retired from FMC in 1987 as a Fabrication Department Supervisor with 35 years of service.

He had previously attended the First Baptist Church in Tipton, and was baptized there by Pastor Lawrence Hufhand.  He loved camping, traveling the countryside, and being with family.

Surviving are two daughters and two sons: Vickie Magers and husband Ted of Anderson, Sherry Bradford and husband Greg of Anderson, Rick Yeary and wife Kathy of Tipton, Steve Yeary and Jennifer of Kokomo;  two brothers, Floyd Yeary and Kathy of Tipton, Glen Yeary and wife Betty of Concord, NC;   two sisters, Ruby Cook and the late Claude Cook of Sherman, IL, Betty DeWitt and husband Jerry of Tipton;  six grandchildren, Stacy Smith and husband Keith of Anderson, Mackenzie Yeary of Tipton, Justin Bradford of Anderson, Ashley Bradford of Anderson, Chris Yeary of Kokomo, Cole Yeary of Kokomo; six great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son Lonnie, three brothers, Herbert, Raymond, and  Leffette (Lefty), two sisters Easter Cook and Peg Woodard, a granddaughter Kristy Moore, and a great grandson Travis Moore.

His funeral will be at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, May 17 at Young-Nichols Funeral Home with Rev. Jim Rogers presiding.  Burial will be in Sharpsville Cemetery. The Tipton American Legion will perform military rights at the graveside.  Visitation will be from 12:00-2:00 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
