Barbara J. Tucker, 85 of Tipton died at 1:36 a.m. on Wednesday, October 26, 2016 at Miller’s Merry Manor, Tipton. She was born June 25, 1931 in Tipton to James & Goldie (Bess) Goar. She married Lex Tucker on July 23, 1949 and he preceded her in death on February 10, 1991.

Barbara was a teacher for Tipton Community School Corporation, retiring in 1995. She was a graduate of Tipton High School and had received her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from Indiana University Kokomo. She belonged to the Retired Teachers’ Association. Barbara was a member of the West Street Christian Church where she had been an organist for many years as well as an Elder and Chairman of the Board.

She is survived by her four children, Julia Wallyn and husband Gary, Kokomo, Jim Tucker, Tipton, Joe Tucker, Tipton, and Janet Rauschenbach and husband Tim, Fishers; seven grandchildren, Lisa & Michael Wallyn, Grant & Blake Woods, Logan, Palmer and Sloane Rauschenbach. One brother, Jim Goar preceded her in death.

Barbara’s funeral will be at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, October 28 at Young-Nichols Funeral Home with Rev. Cindy Ploughe presiding. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Tipton. Visitation will be from 12:00 – 2:00 Friday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions in Barbara’s honor may be made to the Alzheimers Association, 50 East 91st Street, Suite 100, Indianapolis, Indiana, 46240.

Dear Joe, so very sorry to receive the word about your Mother’s passing… She was such a wonderful Lady for the entire community of Tipton… She was a true beacon of Grace when ever I saw he out and about… She was a great influence on all her children… Keep the faith Joe, you will be able to spend time with her in another setting…

    I can vision her and Lex having a great cup of coffee together…

  3. Sorry to hear of your mother’s passing. She was a very gracious lady. Barbara was my mentor teacher when I did my student teaching at Lincoln Elem. I’ve always been grateful for her guidance in my early years of teaching. I saw her many times last Fall while visiting my mother at Miller’s Merry Manor. I’m sorry for your loss but know she was welcomed into heaven on great celebration. You are all in my thoughts and prayers.

    We just learned from Ann Smelser about your mother’s passing through to her Heavenly Father. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all. Your mother played the organ for our wedding on Dec. 24, 1959 at the West Street Christian Church. What a lovely lady! We will remember her always pleasant personality.

    I was sad to hear of your Moms passing, I remember you Julia & Jim we graduated together along with my hubby Larry Barnes. I remember being in the choir at West St, & your Mom playing the organ many,many Sundays. She was amazing. Her picture is just the same as I remember her many years ago. She was always such a sweet lady. It makes my heart sick to think she had Alzheimer*s, I have cared for folks with that awful disease. Please know our family*s thoughts & prayers are with you all.

  10. Dear Julia, Janet, Jim and Joe, My sincere condolences for the loss of your Mother Barbara. Although we lost touch in recent years, I fondly remember her and your Father Lex when I lived in Tipton as a child. She was a gentle soul and an anchor for her family.
