Henry Robert “Bob” Longfellow

Henry Robert “Bob” Longfellow, 77 of Tipton passed away at 5:20 p.m. on Tuesday, January 3, 2023 at IU Health Tipton.  He was born on January 29, 1945 in Kokomo to H. Wallace & Alice (Crail) Longfellow.  He had three siblings, Joyce, Jane, and Mark.

Bob was a 1963 graduate of Jefferson Township High School in Kempton.  He enjoyed 4-H, FFA, and baseball. After high school, he attended Purdue and Vincennes Universities, and then taught 5th and 6th grades at St. Benedict and St. Margaret Mary. Bob met Doris Baute while at Vincennes. They were married on July 15, 1972 in Columbus, Indiana. He enjoyed the outdoors so much that they moved to Liberty, Indiana to be the assistant manager at Whitewater State Park for four years. He and Doris then moved to Noblesville where he worked for Noblesville Utilities before establishing their home in Tipton. The couple was blessed with three children and have been married 50 years. Bob worked for Tipton Utilities, retiring in 2010. Doris and Bob enjoyed camping and visiting several national and state parks. He loved farming with his Allis Chalmers tractors and raising sheep. He took pleasure gardening, cider making, mowing, landscaping, and camping with friends and family. He especially enjoyed spending time with grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife, Doris; three children, Amy Reeves and husband David, David Longfellow and wife Heather, Jeff Longfellow, and Kim Bowerman; grandchildren, Kylee, Trent, and Grant Reeves, Henry Longfellow, Ali, AbbiAnna, Spencer, and Carter Harrison, Tucker and Harley Bowerman; two brother in-laws, Earl Baute and Teresa, Max Baute and Elaine; several cousins and nieces and nephews.  Bob was preceded in death by his parents, mother and father-in-law, Ed and Kathryn Baute, a sister-in-law, Barb Baute and a grandson, Trevor Reeves.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 10, at Young-Nichols Funeral Home with Tony Thomas presiding.  Burial will follow at Kempton Cemetery. Visitation will be on Monday from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home and Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until service time.
