Janet J. Dolan, 79 of Tipton died at 9:57 p.m. on Tuesday, January 17, 2017 at Waterford Place in Kokomo. Janet was born July 4, 1937 in Tipton to Gail and Lois (Day) Horton. On October 28, 1955 she married Morris E. Dolan and he preceded her in death on October 27, 2008. After they were married they lived for a brief time on the East Coast while Morris was in the service.

Janet graduated from Wrights Beauty School in Kokomo and was a hairdresser for 25 years. She also worked at First Farmers Bank & Trust and later at Pioneer. Janet was a member of West Street Christian Church in Tipton where she was a Deacon and Elder. She also was a member of Tipton Elks Lodge #1012, American Legion Post #67, and Moose Lodge # 1590. Janet was an avid bowler, loved to read, a big tennis fan, and knit beautiful afghans.

She is survived by three daughters, Terri Newcom and husband Randy, Kempton, Tracy Lewis and husband Jerry, Romney, Shannon Copas and husband Terry, Tipton; a sister, Ruth Ann Anderson, Tipton; a brother, William “Randy” Horton, Tipton; a sister-in-law, Ruth Ann Horton, Sturgis, Michigan; six grandchildren, Sara Beth (Newcom) Murphy and husband Michael, Emily Newcom, Tanner Lewis and wife Katy, Hayley (Lewis) Knodell and husband Tyler, Taylor (Copas) Moats and husband Kevin, and Mallory (Copas) Jacobs and husband Ethan; five great-granddaughters and one great-grandson. Janet was preceded in death by one brother, Bob Horton.

Janet’s funeral will be at 4:00 p.m. Saturday, January 21, at Young-Nichols Funeral Home, Tipton, with Rev. Linda McKiernan-Allen presiding. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Tipton at a later date. Visitation will be from 2:00 until time of the service on Saturday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Tipton County 4-H Scholarships, c/o Tipton County Foundation, P.O. Box 412, Tipton, Indiana, 46072.
