Jerry A. Dell

 -

Jerry A. Dell, 81 of Goldsmith passed quietly at 9:15 a.m. on Thursday, March 23, 2023 at Witham Hospital in Lebanon. He was born in Tipton, Indiana on February 26, 1942 to Clifford Fern & Margaret Elizabeth (Lee) Dell. On February 21, 1964 he married Karen Bauer. The couple enjoyed 59 years of marriage together before Jerry’s passing.

Jerry proudly served in the United States Army for six years. He drove a semi for over 50 years before retiring and going to work for the Indiana Department of Transportation. Jerry retired from the state in 2008. He was an avid sports enthusiast and enjoyed pitching horseshoes for many years. Matter of fact he was very good at pitching horseshoes and was the AHPA State Champion for four years in a row. When the weather was nice, and there were no sporting events or horseshoe to be tossed, Jerry loved to ride his motorcycle.

Jerry had a deep love for his family. All of Jerry’s boys played sports, and as the grandkids got older they also played sports. Jerry made it a point to be in the stands cheering on all of his family when possible. He was very proud of his boys and their families.

Jerry is survived by his wife, Karen; three sons, Brian Dell and wife Kathy of Tipton, Todd Dell and wife Stacie of Tetersburg, Kyle Dell and wife Stephanie of Tipton; eight grandchildren, Nathan, Adam, McKayla, Jeremy, Jamey, Amber, Andrea, and Brody; along with five great-grandchildren, Kaidan, Kennedy, Raelynn, Hadleigh, and Tinzleigh with another on the way in June and step grandchildren, Emily McCollum, Austin McCollum, and Andrew White. Jerry was the last living sibling; he was preceded in death by 12 siblings, Norma, William, Alice, Leatrice, Richard, Treva, Billie Jo, Roy, Neita, Harry, Linda, and Markitta.

Funeral services for Jerry will be at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, March 27 at Young-Nichols Funeral Home with Rev. Logan Westrick officiating. Burial will follow at Tetersburg Cemetery. Visitation will also be on Monday from 12:00 Noon until the time of the service.

Memorial donations in honor of Jerry may be made to the Tetersburg Christian Church, P.O. Box 207, Tipton, Indiana, 46072.

  9. Karen and my buddy’s the Dells.
Jerry was a friend and good influence in my youth when I had a hot temper, he could settle ya down, huh Brian, and Todd? But to our family, he showed his compassion and just being a man when he brought the news of my brother Ricks being struck by a hit n run driver on US 31, which Jerry witnessed and tried to identify the scoundrel, but his ole’ 3 on the tree pickup couldn’t catch up. Jerry speeding in our driveway broke it to Mom, and as tough as I knew Mr. Dell to be from ballgames I played in and him there for Brian or Todd, his eyes were watering when He described what he saw, and my Mother Helen Smith nearly collapsed but Jerry held her up. I’ll miss seeing him around on his Harley-scooter around Tipton, and as stated by a classmate of mine , I’ll never forget him either. When we all get to Heaven , what a day of rejoicing that’ll be! Go with God brother Jerry, love ya Dells, William Todd Smith

I don’t believe Jerry played on a Tipton high school athletic team. BUT, in my opinion Jerry was one of the greatest Tipton Blue Devils to play sports. He loved basketball. He dominated the courts at Kempton and Tipton parks. Jerry Arch Dell, you will be missed.

My mother was a Tidler and the Dells and the Tidler’s were great friends.

  19. Jim Long (THS Class of 62)

Jerry Dell was a great athlete. Especially basketball. I would put Jerry Arch in the top 5 all time athletes coming out of Tipton and most folks missed watching him play because, as far as I know, he didn’t play organized high school sports.

My mother is a Tider and the Tidlers and the Dells were a close-nitched group.
