June Armstrong Lacey, 99, of Windfall, Indiana, died on Monday, October 15, 2012, at Hawthorne Inn in Danville, Illinois. June lived the majority of her life in the Windfall area, but since March of 2007 June resided in the assisted living facilities of Hawthorne Inn.

She was born December 28, 1912, just east of Windfall, the daughter of Ray and Pearl (Shawhan) Armstrong. While teaching in Randolph County, Indiana, June married Dudley Lacey on February 15, 1936. They relocated to the Windfall area in 1940 and lived in the Tipton and Howard County area the rest of their lives. They were both devoted members of the Windfall United Methodist Church. Committed to community service, June was a member of the Eastern Star, a past president of the Tipton County American Cancer Society, the Lions Club, and several other civic organizations. A loyal Purdue fan, June shared her love of all things Boilermaker with all who knew her.

A life-long learner, June was a 1931 graduate of Wood High School in Windfall. She earned her original teaching degree from Central Normal College in Franklin, Indiana. Later she completed both her Bachelor and Masters of Arts Degrees from Ball State University in Muncie. June shared her love of learning and education throughout her thirty-eight year teaching career. After teaching in both the Windfall and Tipton schools, June taught her last seventeen years in the Kokomo Schools before retiring in 1977. After her retirement from the classroom, she taught in a math lab at Indiana University in Kokomo and worked as a township assessor and trustee in Wildcat Township.

A woman of steadfast conviction, devotion, and resolution, June will be sadly missed by all of her family and friends. Surviving are a son, Michael Lacey and wife Judy of Valparaiso, and daughter, Patricia (Lacey) Woods of Danville, Illinois. She is also survived by eight grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren, and nine great- great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents, and a sister, Ruth (Armstrong) Tuttle.

Services for June will be at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 20 at the Windfall United Methodist Church with burial to follow in Brookside Cemetery in Windfall. Friends may call before the services from noon until 2:00 p.m. on Saturday at the church.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Dudley Lacey Memorial Food Pantry c/o Windfall U.M.C., 201 S. Independence St., Windfall, Indiana, 46076 or the American Cancer Society of Tipton County, 2723 S. Albright Road, Kokomo, Indiana, 46902.  Young-Nichols Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
