Michael Burkett
Michael Leroy Burkett, 56 of Tipton died on Thursday, December 1, 2016 at Indiana University Hospital, Indianapolis. He was born in Tipton on March 28, 1960 to Omer Leroy & Gracie Jane (Rudkin) Burkett. On August 5, 2005 he married Mary Kaye Miller and she survives.
Michael worked for Syndicate Sales in Kokomo driving a truck and was a farmer prior to that. He was a graduate from Tipton High School, Class of 1978, and Lincoln Technical Institute. Early in his life he attended the Christian Church. He enjoyed working in the yard and flower gardening. Michael also did the lighting for a band and enjoyed Rock ‘n’ Roll music. He enjoyed watching the Colts play with his family. Michael was a dog lover.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Kaye; a step-daughter, Shyra Purnell, Tipton; a step-son-Seth Purnell, Tipton; Shannon Hinton, Tipton who he raised like a daughter; a sister, Linda Keifer and husband Larry, Tipton and a brother, John E. Burkett, Tipton.
Michael’s funeral will be at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 4 at Young-Nichols Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Tipton. Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. until time of the service on Sunday.
I’m so sorry to hear of Michael’s passing! We (The Girls band) are all saddened to hear of this…Michael was always such a gentleman and such a pleasure to have around. He was always so upbeat and fun and did a fantastic job on our light show. I remember back in the 80’s, he came to my apartment and took me to Steak and Shake because he knew I couldn’t ever afford to eat there. I will always smile when I think of our “Burkett the Circuit”.
