Richard L. "Rick" Brown

 -

Richard L. “Rick” Brown, 75 of Cicero passed away at 3:05 a.m. on Thursday, December 29, 2022 at home.  He was born in Hillsdale, Michigan on October 11, 1947 to Alfred Hoverd and Edla Lorieta (Sears) Brown.  Rick married Evelyn Mae Odom on August 7, 1969; she survives.

Rick was a firm believer in hard work, which made it important to him to set the appropriate goals for himself. After getting started in the car business, owning a dealership became a major goal for him to achieve. That goal came true in the early 2000’s as Rick became owner of Dan Young GM, a dealership that he had been working at since the early 1990’s.  Rick would often be found at classic car shows, enjoying the history of the automotive industry.

Rick was very active in the Tipton Community.  His operation and ownership of Dan Young General Motors for many years provided an avenue for him to make meaningful contributions to many throughout the area.  Rick was very involved with holiday philanthropy, participating with the Kokomo We Care and Tipton We Share programs.

When Rick was not at the dealership, he enjoyed boating and activities on the lake.  Many memories were made during the trips to Dale Hollow for family vacations.  He loved to bowl and enjoyed the yearly Elks National Bowling weekend.   Rick was a member of the Tipton Elks Lodge and the Moose in Tipton, and was a former member of the Tipton Rotary Club.

Rick served his country in the Army from December of 1966 through December of 1968.

Survivors include his wife Evelyn of Cicero, children Jim Cripe and wife Angela of Whitestown, Sheri Gruwell and husband Tim of Daleville, and Joe Brown and wife Christy of Cicero.  Grandchildren include Taylor Cripe, Jeremy Cripe, Andrew Walters, Andrea Gruwell, Madison Brown and Katelyn Brown.  Rick has four great grandchildren; Natalee, Emma, Gracelynn, and McKinlee Walters.

Funeral services for Rick will be at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 7, at Young-Nichols Funeral Home in Tipton with Rev. Jeff Harlow presiding.  Burial with military rites conducted by the Tipton American Legion and the U.S. Army will follow at Cicero Cemetery in Cicero, Indiana.  Visitation will occur on Friday from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and on Saturday from Noon until service time at the funeral home.

Memorial donations may be made to Tipton County Foundation, 1020 W. Jefferson Street, Tipton, Indiana, 46072.

    Ev, Sheri, Andrea,
Janet and I were very sad when Sheri called and told us about Richard, I remember very well about all the fun we had, at the Sears reunions, at Uncle Howard and Aunt Arlene’s place. Chris, Harold, and Richard were there. It was so much fun. We know that they will all see each other in Heaven along with their Mother and father. Richard was a wonderful man. He had wonderful sense of humor.

  3. Rick always made it so fun when he sponsored the Dan Young golf tournaments for the Tipton Women’s Golf League. He sure reached out to the community in many different ways. He will be missed.

  10. Sorry to hear about Rick . He hired me in the car business in 1980 at Dave Mason Buick . He was an extremely good boss . He was the hardest working man I have ever met .

  11. Rick’s passing is a great loss to the Tipton community. He was a champion of Tipton and supported our community in so many ways. A great family man and friend to many, Rick was an entrepreneur who accomplished his lifelong dream of owning an auto dealership through hard work and determination. He leaves a legacy that Evelyn, Joe and the Brown family can be very proud of. A life well lived. Rest in peace my friend.

  12. As Rick Brown is laid to Rest today I pray his Big Heart and Giving Spirit will live on forever!!! I wouldn’t know where to begin on the impact Rick had on our Family other than just that he was like family. Rick opened his heart and arms to my Parents Don and Bonnie Ross when he became the Head of Dan Young Motors. He always made my father feel he was still home every time he walked in the Dealership. His office was always open for Dad to have a seat at his desk!!! For that I am forever grateful. Rick did so many kind loving things for us and the whole Tipton Community!!! His love of Family , Faith and Friends will live on forever. My Prayers to the whole Brown Family today and in the days ahead. May his infectious smile, warm hugs and sincere kind words always live in your Heart. It is with Great Sadness I can’t be there for a final farewell and Tribute to an awesome man but a big part of him will always live in my memories. God Bless and His Never Ending Love , Lisa Ross Todd and Family!!!
