Shirley J. Milligan Straub

August 3, 1939 — September 15, 2023

Shirley J. Milligan Straub, 84 of Sharpsville died Friday, September 15, 2023 at The Waters of Tipton. She was born in Beaver City, Nebraska on August 3, 1939 to George “Jock” and Violet (Alloway) Milligan. After the loss of her mother, Shirley was raised by her stepmother, Dolores Milligan. Shirley married Dan Straub on November 10, 1979. She had lived in Elwood and Kendallville as well as Sharpsville. She graduated from high school in Anselmo Nebraska.

Shirley worked many years at St. Clair Glass in Elwood. Other employment opportunities included Union State Bank, the optometry field and she spent some time working in retail. She was well known for her beautiful singing. She sang for many occasions throughout the community. She loved singing at her church and leading worship. Shirley was a member of the Order of Eastern Star and had been a 4-H leader for many years. She was a wonderful seamstress and cook. She spent many hours on clothing projects. Often she would be found reading, a pastime she greatly enjoyed. She loved her family and friends, especially her grandchildren, always putting others ahead of herself. She was a sports enthusiast, rooting for the Chicago Cubs, Nebraska Cornhuskers and the Purdue Boilermakers.

Survivors include her husband Dan, children Chris Trimble of Tipton, Cheryl Guyer and friend Chris Dixon of Sharpsville and Laura (Billy) White of Indianapolis. Siblings are Ron Milligan (Devra) of Alaska, Bill Milligan (Cindy) of Kansas, Lynn Pugsley (Randy) of Nebraska and Cindy (Phil) Thalken of Nebraska. Shirley has six grandchildren, Madison Guyer, Tanner Guyer, Kirby (Brittany) White, Jake White, Tegan White and Tilly White. Several nieces and nephews as well as great nieces and nephews round out the family. She was preceded in death by one brother, Mike Milligan of Nebraska.

Funeral services will take place on Monday, September 25 at 7:00 p.m. at Young-Nichols Funeral Home with Pastor John Mansur presiding. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until service time on Monday.
