A. Virginia “Ginny” Baumgartner, 96 of Tetersburg died at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 30, 2017 at her residence. She was born on October 2, 1920 in Cicero to Karl & Gladys (Worley) Applegate. She married A. Robert Baumgartner on May 17, 1942 and he preceded her in death on August 20, 2013. Throughout her life she had lived in Cicero for 15 years, Winamac for 3 years, Indianapolis for 5 years and Tipton County for 73 years.
Ginny had worked as a welfare caseworker for the State of Indiana for over 20 years. She was a graduate of Indiana University and loved IU basketball and football. She was a member of Normanda Christian Church, Easter Star and several bridge clubs. Ginny belonged to the Republican Women’s Club, Extension Homemakers Club and Tri Kappa. She enjoyed reading, traveling and spending time with friends and family.
Survivors include two sons, Alan Baumgartner and wife Janell, Goldsmith, and Steve Baumgartner and wife Sharon, Brooksville, Florida; five grandchildren, Rob Baumgartner and wife Kelley, Craig Baumgartner, Stacie Rimes and husband Davy, Jenni Phenicie and husband Luke, and Julie Skaggs and husband Jason; 12 great-grandchildren, Zach Thomas, Lexi Baumgartner, Gus Baumgartner, Dave Rimes, Luke Baumgartner, Rilee Rimes, Grace Baumgartner, Max Phenicie, Hank Phenicie, Judd Phenicie, Jase Skaggs and Jaxton Skaggs; one sister-in-law, Betty Applegate, Bloomington. She was preceded in death by one brother, K. Edwin Applegate.
Ginny’s funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, June 5, at Young-Nichols Funeral Home with Steve Brown presiding. Burial will follow in Tetersburg Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2:00 – 6:00 p.m. on Sunday.
