Barbara L. Schinlaub of Tipton passed away on Monday, June 30, 2025 at I.U. Health Tipton. Her 91 years of life started on October 31, 1933 in Tipton County when she was born to Arthur N. & Myrtle H. (Marks) Ley. She married James L. “Jim” Schinlaub on May 13, 1953 and he passed away on October 18, 1993 after 40 years of marriage.
Barbara’s smiling face was what you saw as you entered the Tipton County Extension Education Center as she worked there as a secretary from 1970-2007. She really enjoyed working with the 4-H youth, especially during the county fair. She was a graduate of the St. Joseph Academy in Tipton and a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. At the church she belonged to the Altar Rosary Society and the Legion of Mary.
She is survived by two daughters, Jill R. Rice and husband Thomas R., Lebanon and Karen S. Clossin and husband Robert F., Wichita, Kansas; two sisters, Rozella Voss, Tipton and Kathy Phillips and husband Duane, Tipton.
Barbara had three grandchildren, Josh, wife Cortney, Jaime, husband Ryan and Dawn. She also had three step-grandchildren, Andy, Taylor and Zachary as well as two great-grandchildren, Silas and Aydan.
She was preceded in death by one son, Mark A. Schinlaub, one brother, Harold Ley and one sister, Florence Morris.
A funeral service for Barbara will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, July 7 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church with Rev. Adam Mauman presiding. Burial will follow in St. John’s Cemetery. Visitation will be from 12:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m. on Monday starting with a Rosary Service at 12:00, also at the church.
