Bob Whitworth, 90 of Tipton died peacefully at I.U. Tipton Hospital Saturday evening August 15, 2026. He was born in Bonnie Blue, Virginia on March 27, 1936 to Samuel J. and Bessie Lee (Russell) Whitworth. Bob married his sweetheart Dorothy Christine Temple on November 16, 1959. They enjoyed over 43 years of marriage as she preceded him in death on July 28, 2003.
Bob served his country in the military as a member of the United States Marine Corp. Bob was later employed with the Indiana Department of Transportation for over 25 years at the Tipton sub-station, tending to the highways throughout the community. He enjoyed being able to make a difference for so many travelers in the area. He later transitioned to work at the Tipton Ford where he continued to assist many customers with various needs.
In the more recent years, Bob enjoyed watching the old television shows, ones we all grew up with. He was a mechanic and fixer of many broken items. Basically, he enjoyed helping others and thrived on being a positive influence when people were down on their luck and needed help.
Survivors include his children: Ann Johnson and husband Curt of Lakeside, Ohio, David Whitworth and wife Amanda of Tetersburg, and Nancy Dow of Tipton. Bob’s seven grandchildren include: Bre Robinson, Sarah Gonsalves, Ricky Crawford, Jonathan Crawford, Danielle Johnson, Alyvia Whitworth and Zach Jung. Bob was blessed with a great granddaughter, Madison Gonsalves.
He was preceded in death by his wife Dorothy, a daughter Merry Ricketts, and siblings Tommy and Carl Whitworth.
