Carlton Long, 97 of Windfall died peacefully on Sunday August 2, 2026 at Community Rehabilitation Hospital in Indianapolis. He was born in Toxey, Alabama on July 24, 1929 to Thomas Emory and Clara (Robinson) Long. He married Willie Mae Horton on December 23, 1950. She preceded him in death on January 9, 2022.
Carlton was a hard working gentleman, working in the construction trade. He did enjoy the simple pleasures of the outdoors, hunting and fishing and of course, tending to his garden in the summer. He was a member of the Bethel Tabernacle in Kokomo. His faith held him steady.
He is survived by his children: Ronald (Jacqueline) Long of Windfall, David (Pamela) Long of Windfall, and Cindy VanVoorhis of San Diego, California. Siblings include Jerry Donald Long of Gilbertown, Alabama, and Laverne Coody of Toxey, Alabama. Carlton was blessed with several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sons, James and Robert Long and a daughter Belinda Sue Leverage. Carlton was also preceded in death by a grandchild, two great-grandchildren, three brothers, and four sisters.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday August 6, 2026 at 2:00 p.m. at Young-Nichols Funeral Home with Pastor Steve Branstutter presiding. Burial at Brookside Cemetery in Windfall will follow. Visitation will also be on Thursday from Noon until the service.
