Carolyn L. Calhoun

August 28, 1937 — September 4, 2018

Carolyn L. Calhoun, 81, of Tipton was called home by her Savior on September 4, 2018, at I.U. Health Tipton Hospital, following a brief illness. She also lived in Huntington, Lafayette and Boswell over the course of her bountiful life. Carolyn was born August 28, 1937, in Cleveland, Ohio to Donald and Lucille (Schriefer) Sutton. On September 9, 1961, she married Fred Calhoun, and he preceded her in death October 4, 1994.

Carolyn graduated from Huntington High School in 1955. She was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Tipton, Red Hat Society, Tipton County Art Guild and Kiwanis. She enjoyed painting, gardening, baking (her dinner rolls and cinnamon rolls were legendary!), and was a sports enthusiast – especially of her beloved Tipton Blue Devils, Purdue Boilermakers and Chicago Cubs.

Carolyn is survived by four children: Joann Calhoun (West Lafayette, Indiana); John Calhoun and wife, Sara (Salem, Indiana); Jeanette Oster and husband, Kevin (Miles City, Montana); and Jane Schott and husband, Tom (West Lafayette); a sister, Ann Paschall (Columbia, South Carolina); and six grandchildren: Sydney, August, Adam, Molly, Samantha and Sam. She was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Ken Paschall.

A funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, September 10, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church with Fr. Dennis Goth presiding.  Burial will be in St. John’s Cemetery.   Visitation is from 2:00 to 6:00 p.m. Sunday, September 9, at Young-Nichols Funeral Home in Tipton.
