Edward O. “Ed” Quear, 98 of Tipton was born in Indianapolis on June 11, 1927 to Harry S. & Elizabeth E. (Dunham) Quear. He passed away on Tuesday, March 17, 2026 at home after a long and fulfilling life. He married Doris Amsbury on July 7, 1948 and she preceded him in death on November 6, 2016.
Ed had worked as a Project Engineer for Stokely-Van Camp, Inc., Quaker Oats Company and Stokely-USA, retiring in 1990. He was baptized at the West Street Christian Church and had attended elementary schools at the 3rd Ward, Beach Grove and Goldsmith. His junior high education was in Tipton and he graduated from Tipton High School in 1945. Ed was a member of the Tipton County Historical Society, American Legion Post 46 and served on the Tipton County PTABOA.
An avid gardener, Ed also spent a lot of time outdoors hunting and fishing. He enjoyed tracing his family’s genealogy. Ed was honorably discharged from the US Navy after serving in WWII.
Survivors include two grandsons, Scott A. Quear and wife Stephanie of Lebanon and Daniel W. Quear and wife Amy Marglin of Cicero. He was preceded in death by two sons, Steven E. Quear and wife Diana and Dale A. Quear. Ed was the last of his generation as he was preceded in death by his five siblings, Harry C. “Cleon” Quear, Robert E. Quear, Audley W. Quear, Betty F. Boepple and Pearl A. Sullivan.
Funeral services for Ed will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 26 at Young-Nichols Funeral Home with Rev. Mark Knapp presiding. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery with military honors provided by the US Navy and Tipton American Legion. Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. prior to the service.
