James A. Glassburn, 85 of Tipton came into this world on April 4, 1940 in Kokomo. His parents were Elvin Glassburn and Velva (Brock) Glassburn McKinley. Jim passed away on Thursday, August 14, 2025 at home, right where he wanted to be! He married Phyllis Tragesser on September 1, 1962 and she survives.
His career was spent at Chrysler Corporation in Kokomo. Jim graduated from Windfall High School in 1958. He served his country in the U.S. Navy. Jim was a life-long member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. He liked fishing, wood-working and spending time with his grandkids and great-grandkids. The best times were when he was with the love of his life, Phyllis. You rarely saw one of them without the other, unless Jim was at the barber shop.
Survivors include his wife of almost 63 years, Phyllis; his daughter, Jamie Overdorf of Tipton; one sister, Nadine Dunham and husband Philip of Kokomo. Jim also has five grandchildren, Tyler Shirley, Sarah (Michael) Drury, Andrew (Micayah) Overdorf, Jacob (Mallorie) Overdorf and Nicholas Overdorf. His great-grandchildren are Makenna, Griffin and Emmett Drury, Azaiah, Azykial, Alayah and Azariah Overdorf, Eisley and Jameson Overdorf.
Jim was preceded in death by two sons, Scotty and Jimmy and his siblings Ray, Chuck, Harry, Patricia, Joan and Lucy.
The Mass of Christian Burial for Jim will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 21 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church with Rev. Adam Mauman presiding. Burial will follow in St. John’s Cemetery with military honors. Visitation will also be on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service.
