James W. “Jim” Stroup

James W. "Jim" Stroup, 94 of Tipton County died on Monday, December 15, 2014 at Miller's Merry Manor. He was born August 10, 1920 in Tipton County to William E. & Zola (Newlon) Stroup. On July 20, 1941 he married Muriel D. Grimme. She preceded him in death on March 3, 2001. He married Charlotte Richwine on October 9, 2004 and she survives.

Jim was a farmer and had worked at Chrysler, retiring in 1983. He was a member of Liberty Baptist Church and had served as the Prairie Township Trustee for 20 years. He belonged to the Kempton Lions Club, Tipton County Republican Party and the Chrysler UAW.

Survivors besides his wife Charlotte include his children, James R. Stroup and girlfriend Ann Spence, Kokomo, Gary L. Stroup of Sharpsville, Cathy J. Zahn and husband Robert, Sharpsville and daughter-in-law Kym Stroup, Tipton. One brother, Richard Stroup, Indianapolis, also survives.

Jim is also survived by his grandchildren, Marla Stroup, Erin Lawrence, Brad Stroup, Mathew Stroup, Alysha Currie, Kyle Zahn, Greg Zahn, Laura Bowers, Andrew Stroup, Brian Zahn, Taylor Stroup, Evan Zahn and nine great-grandchildren. Jim was preceded in death by one son, Douglas A. Stroup; one brother, Robert Stroup and one sister, Violet VanBibber.

Funeral services for Jim will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 18 at Young-Nichols Funeral Home with Rev. Bob Lawson presiding. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Tipton. Visitation will be from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
