Jane Tyner, 104 of Tipton passed away on Saturday, May 13, 2023 at The Waters of Tipton. She was born on June 14, 1918 in Goldsmith, Indiana to Dr. Lloyd & Nellie Bly (Smith) Tyner.
Jane graduated from Goldsmith High School and Indiana University, getting a degree in Education. She did not have children of her own, but she was instrumental in shaping and changing multiple young lives.
Jane was a high school English and Latin teacher. She taught at Prairie Township and Jefferson Township Schools in Tipton County for many years. Jane also taught at Western and Jackson Central now known as Hamilton Heights before retiring in 1963.
She was a member of Goldsmith Methodist Church, Women’s Society of Christian Service, and American Association of University Women. Jane was a 75 year member of the Order of Eastern Star. In her free time she loved traveling and was an avid reader.
She is survived by her nephews, David Campbell and Bill Campbell and five great-nieces and nephews. Jane was preceded in death by her sister, Margaret (Tyner) Campbell.
Graveside funeral services will be held at Normanda Cemetery on Friday, May 26, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. with Deacon John Etter presiding. Visitation will be on Thursday, May 25 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Young-Nichols Funeral Home.
