Joe F. Watson, 88 of Tipton died at 7:05 a.m. on Monday, August 20, 2018 at Miller’s Merry Manor in Tipton. He was born on April 28, 1930 at home in Prairie Township in Tipton County to Herbert Campbell Watson & Neva (Dawson) Watson Mount. He was the stepson of C.W. Mount.
Joe was an attorney and had practiced law in Tipton for over 50 years. He had attended Culver Military Academy, was a 1948 graduate of Tipton High School and attended Purdue University from 1948-49, Indiana University from 1949-52 and graduated from the Indiana University School of Law in 1958. Joe was a member of the American Bar Association, Kiwanis, Masonic Lodge, American Legion and Sigma Nu Fraternity. He loved Big Band music and ballroom dancing for which he won several awards. Joe loved history, Tipton County and her people. He was a 1st Lieutenant in the U.S. Air Force serving from 1952-54.
Survivors include three daughters, Cindy (Watson) Lunsford and husband Walt, Littleton, Colorado, Marta (Watson) Elliott and husband Mac, Buchanan, Michigan and Marianne (Watson) Brophy and husband Brett, Folsom, California; six grandchildren, Sarah (Lunsford) Grimm, Andrew Watson Lunsford, Katie Elliott, Mac Elliott, Jr., Roxie Elliott and Gannon Brophy. Joe also has four great-grandchildren, Colin Lunsford, Max Lunsford, Jackson Grimm and Ella Grimm. He was preceded in death by one sister, Doris Ann Gish.
Funeral services for Joe will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 25 at Young-Nichols Funeral Home with Steve Brown presiding and burial to follow in Normanda Cemetery with military honors. Visitation will be from 4:00-8:00 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home.
