Listen to Obituary

Korine Nichole (Kakasuleff) Abernathy, 46 passed away on Thursday, January 8, 2026 in Indianapolis. She was born in Indianapolis on May 13, 1979 to Kenneth M. Kakasuleff and Bridget (Elliott) Perkins.

Korine was a graduate of Tri-Central High School in the Class of 1997. She later graduated from the Alexandria School of Massage Therapy and had many thankful clients while she pursued that profession. She had attended Heartland Church in Tipton County. Korine was a lover of animals, art, crafts and music. She also enjoyed square dancing, camping and swimming, especially when at the beach.

Cooking and late-night ice creams runs were always on her list of activities which she balanced with running, working out and doing yoga. She enjoyed using great makeup. Two of the most important things for Korine were her love for Jesus and her family.

Survivors include her mother and step-father, Bridget & Dennis Perkins, Windfall and Ken Kakasuleff of Cicero; her children, Sgt. Levi Abernathy, San Diego, California and Kaela Abernathy of Kokomo as well as one “grand-kitty”. She was preceded in death by one son, Konner Joseph Kakasuleff in 2017 and her grandmother, Shirley Weismiller.

Korine expressed to her family that she did not want a funeral after she passed away. As her friends grieve her passing, the best way to honor her would be to reach out and do a good deed for someone else in honor of Korine.

Young-Nichols Funeral Home has been entrusted with caring for Korine. Messages of condolence for her family may be left on her obituary page at www.young-nichols.com. Memorial donations to help with funeral costs may be made to the funeral home.
