Lester F. Prifogle, 95 of Greenwood passed away at home Monday, January 26, 2026. Lester was born in Tipton on December 8, 1930 and had lived for many years in Fort Wayne before moving closer to family in Greenwood. His parents were William F. & Zella A. (Wynn) Prifogle.
We lost a great man on January 26. He didn’t climb mountains or cross any seas; but as a good friend of his said “he was a true gentleman who was a hardworking man with a beautiful soul”. Known for sharing stories about his years on the farm, time spent in the army and Indiana University Sports – never imagining he would live to see IU win the CFP Championship. He never knew a stranger and never forgot a name.
Survivors include his daughters, Julia Wellman, Naples, Florida, Diona Dunn (James Turbaugh) Greenwood and Diana Clark also of Greenwood. He is also survived by five grandchildren, Kate Wellman, Jonathan, Michael, Daniel and Benjamin Clark; one sister, Mary Alice (Prifogle) Morrill and six great-grandchildren, Cole, Henry, William, Victoria, Catherine and Gwendolyn. Lester had 12 nieces and nephews who affectionately called him “Uncle Killer”.
He was preceded in death by one son-in-law, Steven Clark as well as his siblings Maxine (Prifogle) Gaugler and husband Elbert, Margaret “Charlene” (Prifogle) Henry and husband Ed and Donald W. “Pete” Prifogle and wife Clarabelle.
Lester had desired no services once he passed away and his family is honoring his wish. He will be buried in Fairview Cemetery next to his parents. Young-Nichols Funeral Home is honored to assist the Prifogle family in their time of need. Online condolences may be left on Lester’s obituary page at www.young-nichols.com.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Lester’s honor should be made to the Indiana University Foundation, P.O. Box 6460, Indianapolis, Indiana, 46206.
