Linda Lou Altherr, aged 76, of Tipton, passed away on Thursday, March 12, 2026. Born on December 7, 1949, in Elwood to Calvin C. and Jeanette (Mahaney) Garmon, Linda led a life marked by dedication to her family and community. She graduated from Tipton High School in 1968 and married Kenneth Altherr on June 7, 1969. Together, they shared 56 cherished years of marriage while raising their family.

Linda served her community with distinction, holding the position of Deputy Cicero Township Assessor from 1979 to 1986 and later serving as the Tipton County Assessor from 1987 until her retirement on December 31, 2014. She was a devoted member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church and actively participated in the Rosary Society and the Tipton County Republican Women’s organization.

In her leisure time, Linda enjoyed playing Bingo, spending quality moments with her family, and taking her grandchildren fishing as well as attending their sporting events.

She is lovingly remembered by her husband, Kenny; daughter Tammy Clark and husband Mark; son Randy Altherr and wife Candy, all of Tipton. Linda's siblings include Anna Kerfoot and husband Mike of Noblesville, Jerry Garmon and wife Debra of Athens, Alabama, and sisters-in-law Patty Phillips and husband Mike, and Joan McNeal and husband Jim. She was preceded in death by her sister, Joyce Wright and her husband Raymond.

Linda was a proud grandmother to Courtney (Connor) Campbell, Nick (Mackenzie Black) Altherr, Lexi (Kyler Lineback) Altherr, Brayden (Hannah Isaac) Clark, and Cooper Altherr, and great-grandmother to Bentley, Easton, and Cora. She also has several nieces, nephews and cousins.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, March 16, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church with Reverend Dennis Goth officiating. Burial will follow at St. John’s Cemetery. Visitation is scheduled for Sunday, March 15, from 2:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Young-Nichols Funeral Home.
