Martha A. “Marty” Meng, 91 of Tipton was born in Conception Junction, Missouri on August 29, 1934. Her parents were Leo Joseph & Catherine Leota (Van Vactor) Protzman. Marty married James L. Meng on September 14, 1957 and after 61 years of marriage, Jim passed away on November 18, 2018. Marty passed away on Wednesday, August 26, 2026 at IU Health – Tipton Hospital (formerly Tipton County Memorial Hospital) where she had dedicated her career as a nurse for many years, retiring in 1991.
Marty graduated from St. Mary’s High School in Delaware, Ohio and then from The Ohio State University with a Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing. She was an active member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church and the Altar/Rosary Society.
Marty is survived by her four children, Timothy J. Meng and husband Mike Goldschlag, Ft. White, Florida, Mark D. Meng, Tipton, Mary A. Meng, Clive, Iowa and Emma L. Teyema, Tipton; three grandchildren, Madison Gruel, Natalie Teyema and Darian (Dakota) Brock.
She is survived by her siblings Catherine (Paul) Schieber, Maryville, Missouri, Alicia (Harold) Lewis, Graham, Missouri, Emma Kennedy, Bethany, Missouri, F. Herbert (Arla) Protzman, Midwest City, Oklahoma and James (Terry) Protzman, Conception Junction, Missouri. Marty was preceded in death by her siblings, Leo & Paul Protzman, Mary Runde and Patricia Johnson.
A funeral mass for Marty will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 1 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 335 Mill Street, Tipton, Indiana, 46072 with Rev. Adam Mauman presiding. Burial will follow in St. John’s Cemetery, Tipton. Visitation will be from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Monday, August 31 at Young-Nichols Funeral Home with a Wake and Rosary service starting at 4:00 p.m.
