Mary Dorotha (Sandman) Boyer, 99, of Tipton passed away peacefully surrounded by her children on Friday, November 30, 2018.  Mary was born on April 4, 1919 to Henry William and Flora Anna (Leininger) Sandman.  On October 11, 1940 she married Glenn Thompson Boyer.  He preceded her in death on March 18, 1998.  They shared 58 years of marriage together.

Mary was baptized at Emanuel Lutheran Church in Tipton, Indiana on April 20, 1919.   She attended all eight grades at the Lutheran School and was confirmed on April 9, 1933.  Her confirmation verse was Psalm 13:5-6.  It inspired her throughout her life.  She was a 1937 graduate of Tipton High School.  Mary was a lifelong member of Emanuel Lutheran Church where she was a member of the Ladies Aid, LWML, and the Altar Guild.  In her younger days she taught Sunday School and sang in the church choir.  She and Glenn had been active members of the Tipton County Historical Society, the Tipton Lions Club, and delivering Meals on Wheels.  After graduation from high school she worked ten years at the Smitson’s Laundry as their bookkeeper and later after raising her family she was a bookkeeper for Jim Dandy Restaurants, Inc.

Over the years Mary enjoyed participating in various card playing groups including Bridge, Euchre, Samba, and Skip Bo.  She enjoyed baking pies, cooking family meals, and preparing trays of Christmas cookies for family and friends.  She also enjoyed sewing, needlework, and making beautiful Christmas ornaments.  She was always willing to help out a neighbor or friend and served as a caregiver at various times for members of her family.

She is survived by her daughter Rita (Tim) Henderson of Sharpsville, her son Rex (Jo Ellen) Boyer of rural Tipton, four grandchildren: Lora (Joe) McClelland of Romeo, MI, Kent (Heather) Boyer of Tipton, Kelly (Kyle) Kuehnert of Huntington, Kara (Will) Hutchenson of Mason, Ohio.  She had seven great-grandchildren, Madilyn, Quinlyn, and Irelyn McClelland, Gracie and Garrett Boyer, Kaden and Kinley Kuehnert.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, an infant sister Ella Mae, and an older brother Emmert Sandman.

Funeral services will be at 12:00 Noon on Friday, December 7 at Emanuel Lutheran Church, 1385 S. Main Street, Tipton, Indiana with Rev. Dr. Robb Roloff presiding.  Burial will follow services at Fairview Cemetery in Tipton.  Visitation will be on Friday also, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service.  Young-Nichols Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.
